Windshield Maintenance Tips For The Spring
You may spend a lot of time de-icing and caring for your windshield in the winter, but what about the spring? Just because the snow and hail is gone, doesn't mean your windshield doesn't need regular care. Here are some maintenance tips to follow in the spring for your car's windshield.
Clean the Windshield Regularly
Windshields need to be cleaned on a regular basis. Not only does it make it easier for you to see when you are driving, especially with a glare from the sun, but it also helps to prolong the life of your windshield. Make sure when you clean the windshield, you don't use products that contain ammonia. They can destroy any tint your windshield has and are dangerous if you inhale the chemicals. When drying the windshield, use microfiber towels, as they are absorbent and won't leave streaks or lint on your windows.
Avoid Direct Sunlight
When you choose where to park your car, try to avoid parking in direct sunlight. This is extra important if you will be parked somewhere for several hours at a time. The direct sunlight can shorten the life of your windshield. If you have any cracks on the windshield, they can get worse due to the temperature change from the direct sunlight.
Fix Cracks and Chips
Don't put off repairing scratches, cracks and chips that you find on your windshield. These can get worse over time if they are not repaired quickly. Cracks and chips might leave enough room for dirt, sand, and pebbles to get inside. Not only are they hard to remove, but when you do remove them, you might make the cracks worse. There are kits sold in auto repair stores that help you repair small chips and cracks. For larger ones, consult a repair shop like City Wide Auto Glass.
Replace the Windshield Wiper Blades
Spring is a good time to replace the windshield wiper blades. They probably took quite a beating during the winter and are ready to be replaced. Windshield wiper blades are inexpensive and very easy to put on yourself. It takes only a few minutes and can be helpful when you are driving in the rain. Since many climates tend to have more rain in the spring than any other season, this is the perfect time to put fresh windshield wiper blades on your vehicle. After replacing the blades, take a moment to top off the windshield wiper fluid.
